Rf Cable Assembly
The coaxial or RF cable assembly was invented in 1929 as the ham radio was beginning to come into its own. Despite this, coaxial cable did not become commercially used until much later in 1941. The basic coaxial cable consists of a central wire that is covered by an insulating spacer or sheath, this sheath is then covered by a layer of fine wire mesh and finally by an outer insulating layer to protect everything from the effects of the weather and many other forms of damage. An RF cable assembly is still not much more than an electrical cable that is designed to carry high frequency signals and the RF shielding, which is the braided wire outer layer is designed to makes sure that this signal does not cause any interference with other devices in the area.
One of the most common used for coaxial cable is carrying video signals like the cable television signal that comes into the back of your television set. However it can also be used in some forms of networking, while it is more expensive than standard telephone wires it is capable of carrying far more data at much higher speeds. An RF cable assembly generally comes in one of two forms, flexible and rigid. The difference is in the type of inner sheath being used, for the rigid cable a solid metal sheath may be used. The most common cable everyone is familiar with is the flexible one, generally the sheath is made from braided copper wire that is very fine and flexible making it easy to install the cable anywhere it needs to go. Different inner insulators, known as dielectrics, are used to vary the impedance of the cable and can be solid or have tiny holes drilled throughout. Depending on the application for the RF cable assembly being manufactured they can come with a variety of different connectors. The average television coaxial connector is made from an alloy of steel designed to keep it from rusting. In certain instances where good connections are important some cables are made with silver connectors, although this tends to oxidize and a special coating must be used. For the best possible connection in high end equipment nothing but pure gold connectors will do as it has the best level of conductivity of all the different metals used to make connectors.
There are several different types of RF cable assembly from the tri-axial cable that consists of three layer of shielding to provide maximum protection from outside electromagnetic interference. There is twin axial that consists of a twisted pair of wires covered by a shield and bi axial made using two co axial cables used in networking and several other forms of larger and smaller cables assemblies used for a multitude of purposes. Whatever type of RF cable assembly you need to have built JEM Electronics can produce them for you. They can build you individual cables or set up a production run for larger quantities as need and guarantee top quality products per your specification.
