VSWR Testing
What is VSWR?
View Full Size PictureVoltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) is the ratio of the maximum voltage to the minimum voltage in the standing wave on a
transmission line. Standing waves are the result of reflected RF energy. As the VSWR approaches 1.00:1, the reflections on
the line approach zero and maximum power may be transmitted.
Reflections can occur any place where the impedance of the transmission line changes. Typically inside a cable assembly, the
impedance of the line is changed in the length of the cables, the connections to terminals and connectors. Measuring the VSWR of the assembly indicates how closely the assembly is matched to 50 ohms impedance and indicates the magnitude of the reflected energy.
JEM Electronics provides up to date industry standard testing for products that require VSWR testing. Products that are placed in environments that are sensitive to RF interference should be tested for VSWR. As manufacturers produce different types of RF wire, connectors, and terminals, these assemblies combined into products that may fall out of your design specifications. Each assembly should be tested, serialized and recorded for future reference.
Contact JEM Electronics to have us build your custom RF cables. We can provide special testing to insure your assemblies will meet and exceed your engineering specifications. Serialization of the product is also available.
